Guide to Vibrators
The most popular of all sex toys, vibrators come in a tremendous variety of styles, shapes, sizes,
colors and prices. No matter what your intended use, you can probably find a vibrator
that's perfect for the occasion.
Slimline Vibrators
When most people think of a vibrator, the
slimline style is the one that comes to mind.
The slimline is between 6 and 8 inches long, smooth from tip to base in the shape of a penis
with a multi-speed controller at the base. Though it has the shape of a penis, the slimline
does not have the definition of a dildo. In fact, it has no definition at all - the surface
is completely smooth. The batteries are inserted into the hollow shaft and the controller
screws on at the base.
Jack Rabbit Vibrators
Jack Rabbit style vibrators are desiged for
simultaneous vaginal and clitoral stimulation.
The shaft is typically jelly or cyberskin material in the shape of a penis - most models
add as much detail as a dildo. Attached on the top of the shaft is a small rabbit (or beaver,
pachyderm, panther, alligator, turtle or some other animal) that is made of softer jelly than
the shaft. The rabbit is only about 1/4 the length of the shaft. It's ears are designed to
gently stimulate the clitoris while the shaft is inserted into the vagina. You may have
seen/heard about the jack rabbit on the HBO series Sex and the City and has long
been popular in Japan.
Venus Vibrators
Venus vibrators
are designed exclisively for clitoral stimulation and have been recommended
by many sex therapists for women who have never achieved orgasm. The vibrator itself is
a small jelly unit about the size of your palm that fits directly over the pubic mound (directly
on top of the clitoris). Adjustable straps similar to a g-string hold the vibrator in place, while
a multi-speed controller allows the user to vary the vibrations to suit her taste. The venus
vibrator can also be worn under a pair of panties or can be worn during intercourse to
provide intense clitoral and penile stimulation.
Clitoral Vibrators
Clitoral vibrators
use several different designs to achieve the goal of stimulating
the clitoris. Some feature a large, round bulge at the base of a slimline styled vibrator so
that the bulge comes into contact with the clitoris when the shaft is fully inserted into
the vagina. Some clitoral vibrators are shaped like a tongue or a finger to allow for
precise stimulation of the clitoral area.
G-Spot Vibrators
G-spot vibrators
feature a normal length shaft that is curved between 45 and 90 degrees just
before the tip to allow for acute stimulation of the female g-spot. The vibrators are also
popular with gay men for prostate stimulation.
The Magic Wand
Hitachi Magic Wand
is a unique vibrator in a class by itself. It features a large, circular
head that is a litte smaller than a baseball attached to a stable shaft that is 7 or 8 inches
long. The head can be used to massage any area of the body, but has been found to be
particular effective in stimulating the clitoris. The shaft itself is never inserted or used for stimulation.
